  6. I liked "On Writing" by Stephen King. But earlier this year, I tried to read my first Stephen King novel, "11/22/63" and I found it tedious. I couldn't get beyond page 36 before tossing it aside, yawning. I couldn't help thinking that his suggestions on writing are great. But good style and/or grammar do not make a storyteller.

    Yeah. Sometimes it goes screaming across the page naked as a jaybird.

    I have even been known to invent my own words when I felt they were needed (e.g., "incongrutiating" comes to mind, but there have been others). There's nothing "necktied" and "dress-shoed" about a newly minted word.
