Because I have a lot of indie authors visiting me for The Artist Unleashed, I've decided to pair up my posts with a wonderful blog hop. Every second Wednesday of every month, The Indelibles are hosting a feature called INDIE LIFE. Modeled after Alex Cavanaugh's awesome Insecure Writer's Group, this will be a chance for indie authors to post about indie life, find each other, offer support, encouragement, news, helpful hints, and anything else that makes life as an indie author a little easier. And what better way to debut the participation of my blog, than to have the amazing L. Diane Wolfe, Professional Speaker & Author, to offer some book promotion tips? Thanks for coming L. Diane Wolfe!

about selling yourself as an author and as a person. The sooner you begin to
network, the better.

Book promotion is all about networking. It’s about
establishing contacts and placing your book in front of readers. It’s also
about selling yourself as an author and as a person. The sooner you begin to
network, the better.
Your list of contacts will range from potential readers to
places for book features. The larger your list, the more opportunities you will
have to promote your book. The key is to build relationships with the people
and places on your list. You will find that people are more apt to purchase or
help promote your book if they know you first.
Every book is unique. Some of these potential contacts and
opportunities might not apply to your book or to your situation; however, don’t
discount any possibility.
Make lists of the following:
· Websites and blogs - sites that are book related, feature your genre or subject matter, will exchange a link or offer a giveaway, other authors in your genre, offer writing or promoting tips, organizations or businesses that tie in with your book, or those with affiliate marketing potential.
· Community sites, forums, and groups - those that attract your target audience, offer options for promoting, and are easy to use.
· The media - newspapers, radio, TV stations, and online media.
· Retail outlets - bookstores, gift shops, specialty shops, independent coffee shops, museums, etc.
· Libraries - public, private, university, and schools.
· Reviewers - pre-publication reviewers, magazines, online magazines & sites, and book bloggers.
· Book festivals, writers’ conferences, fairs, and trade shows - ones that attract your target audience and where you can network.
· Writer and author organizations.
· Your own personal contacts -- both local, mail, and e-mail.
Whether you are traditionally published or self-published,
you can benefit from making contact lists. And the sooner you begin, the
better.
How big are your lists?
