Madonna's song "4 Minutes" is really about writing in the shower ...

I wrote a poem in the shower last night. Thanks to my aqua notes. Product review? Pretty cool. It is actually waterproof, but not indefinitely. After about four mintues of contact with water, the water kinda penetrated the waterproof soya layer and started making my words bleed. But the good thing is the pages underneath remained unharmed, so yeah, it's pretty good. Even Madonna knows what I'm talking about ...

... If you want it
You come and get it
If you thought it
It better be what you want
If you feel it
It must be real just
Say the word and i'm a give you what you want
Time is wasting
We only got 4 minutes to save the prose ...

Yeah, ok, I replaced world with prose. So what? I still think this song is about writing in the shower.

Here's what I wrote:

Shards of wet warmth
envelope my skin
with hot raw silk.
I tilt
my head
and my savior
gushes in my ear--
foam of waterfalls
from hot springs
ricocheting
off white
tiled wall
flecked with blue
grey inspiration
which glows
purple in sunlight--
the child
who brings me prose
in a basket
the colour of ripe seeds.

So, do you write in the shower? Do you find it a good place to mull over ideas?

PS: I was interviewed yesterday over at JM Leotti's Blog. For those of you who've known me for a while, you probably know the answers to most of the questions, but do me a favour and show JM a little blog love because she's awesome!!!

  1. No but I do mind write while walking or driving. I'm usually so brain dead in the shower, I've caught myself giving instructions "okay shampoo, now repeat..."

  3. Um, if I'm in the shower, I'm usually not awake yet.

  4. I didn't know it was possible to write in the shower. That would be pretty awesome because to be honest most of my ideas come when I'm in the shower. Something about the water massaging my brain I think.

  5. No, I don't usually write in the shower, probably because I don't take very long ones. Another reason is that I love the feel of hot water and sort of melt into the experience, not thinking about anything else.

  6. Hmm...I'm usually only awake enough in the shower to shave my legs - anything more complicated than that might not end too well ;-)

  7. No not usually but dang ... it is where my prose seems to lurk. It must be a water nymph :)

  8. Ideas always come to me in the shower. I have got to get some aqua notes!! Loved your poem, especially these lines:

    grey inspiration
    which glows
    purple in sunlight--

    Beautiful!

And yeah, Madonna rocks. Just had to say. :D

  9. I don't actually write in the shower, but I do brainstorm there. The warm water is great for releasing new ideas.

  10. Beautiful poem! Yes, I do a lot of thinking in the shower. Then the water turns cold and I have to get out. Long walks are good, too.

  11. I write in the bathtub ALL. THE. TIME.

I think I get my best plotting done when I can sink into the warm water and brainstorm. The scenes really come to life in my head that way.

    Fun post!

  12. I don't physically write in the shower, but I do come up with a lot of wonderful ideas there. Which usually leads to me jumping out of the shower in a hurry to scribble on a notepad while my hair drips water everywhere. o.O

  13. I write in my head in the shower, and let ideas roll around and percolate. May may have to look into this actual writing option, though. Thanks for bringing to my attention. And for the record, you write better poetry in the shower than I would. :)

  16. I don’t write in the shower. I just savor the heat and the peaceful, quiet time. Those precious few minutes... .

  17. I write in my mind in the shower but I don't own any aqua notes.
    Liked the poem a lot.

  18. Um, awesome you can write in the shower! I can't really think in the shower because I usually have a 5 year old with me. Okay that sounded bad- my daughter and I take showers together ;p But sometimes I get to take one by myself, and I do think about things. It would be so awesome to have something to write it on in the shower. Love your poem!

  22. I could never compose something like that in the shower, but I do sometimes come up with single lines.

  23. I always drift off into Story Land while in the shower. Of course, I drift off to Story Land just about everywhere else, too, it's just that I'm not wasting water on those occasions.

  24. Nar, never write in the shower, it gets my quill all wet, but I like your efforts. Are you goin' to make a vlog and out-sing Madge?

  25. Nope, I don't write in the shower. I do compose poetry in the swimming pool. I swim up and down gaining rhythmic vibes. :)

  27. That was lovely, Jessica!

I tend to get new ideas when I'm in the car or right before I wake up. The trouble with both of those times are I'm rarely able to stop and write down the ideas because I have to either drive or get up and take my daughter to school. UGH...

  29. Aqua notes - I love that! I get so many ideas in the shower, but, by the time I'm all dried off and dressed, they've evaporated along with the steam.
