Keeping an eye on it ...

Source
Gal: Can you come help me in the kitchen?
Guy: groan, footsteps, opens fridge door, pulls lemons out of the fridge and puts them on counter, walks out of kitchen.
Gal: sighs, swears under breath, throws lettuce leaves into sink so hard she splashes herself in the eye and then rubs it with oniony hands ... F#@*!

Guy: Can we eat in half and hour?
Gal: sniffs, nods

Guy: Cool.

.... time passes ...

Gal: I'm going to have a shower, can you put the rice in the pot when the water's boiling?

Guy: clenches jaw, nods
Gal: rolls eyes, mutters something incomprehensible even to herself

.... time passes ...

Guy: I put the rice in the pot.
Gal: blow dries hair, ... okay ... keep an eye on it.

.... time passes ...

Galfinishes blow drying hair, finds guy staring at pot, takes spoon, tastes rice .... groans, It's over-bloody cooked.

  2. Thanks for the laugh! I've got to admit I sympathise with the guy. I infuriate my wife by taking everything she says too literally.

  3. I am lucky. My man is not like that at all. I do most of the cooking because I love it but he is happy to cook and is a good cook and always watches the pot and mostly washes the dishes! Then again, as I taught my daughter, with men you have to start as you mean to go on -

  4. "Sweetie I'm going to the bathroom. Watch the potatoes for me okay?" On the return to the kitchen...."They boiled over." "Thank you dear" True story.

  8. THIS... is why it's best to buy a rice steamer

  9. I've heard great things about counter-top rice cookers (a small appliance). All my Asian friends swear by them--apparently goof-proof. Just a thought for maintaining household peace. I suck at cooking rice myself and am soooo thankful my hubby adores cooking.

  10. I laughed at this! I'm always burning pans. I think I've even done it with rice.

My novella seems to be free at one place on Amazon and not in another. Thanks for telling me there was a problem. I've now changed the link on my post so it goes to the correct place. So if you go back to my blog and click on the pic or on the link in the post, you'll find it.

  11. Well, like my grandma always said "If you want something done right, do it yourself." :( Sometimes I think he's inept on purpose so I won't ask for help again.

  12. It's just easier to do it yourself, isn't it?

    Thanks for the morning laugh.

  13. Oh, this one made me laugh, Jessica.

Sometimes you feel like you have to give step by step when intelligence and logic should provide those steps.

  15. This is generally what happens when I leave things up to anyone who's not me and maybe a select half dozen people. *world explodes*
