Music ... bam bam, twang twang, grunt, yell, squeal, vibrato, ahh, pluck, strum, record, click, cassette, disc, head bang ... yeah man, this is what you call art. I'm gonna be a rock star.
Lyrics ... stupid, these mean nothing, sounds ridiculous, gibberish, I'm a dickhead ... hmmm not bad, yeah this is f#@%ing cool, man ... I think I have a talent for this. Wow, where did I pluck that awesome line from?
FOUR YEARS PASS ...
Poetry ... hey, this is just like writing a song, hey, maybe there's a way to make melody with words ... ooohhh, yeahhhh, I liiiiiike thissssss ... I want to do this every day ...
Prose ... Um, is this a short story? Um ... I don't know. There's no ending is there? It's all just kinda ... you know ... stuff that happens. This is stupid. What am I thinking? Sure I can write. But structure? Pfft ... don't count on it.
Poetry ... guess I'll just stick to what I know ...
FOUR YEARS PASS ...
Novel ... I'm going to write a novel and get it published, yep ... easy peasy ... I SO know what I'm doing.
FIVE YEARS AND SEVEN DRAFTS LATER ...
About flipping time ... STRING BRIDGE! And a whole bunch of other stuff ...
What started you writing?

Life is all trial and error, why should the creative process be any different?
ReplyDeleteMy story is kinda like yours. It took me some time to realize that's what I wanted to do with my creativity!
ReplyDelete...and a least you DID something with your creativity. I'm sure there's more coming too.
ReplyDeleteLove the progression of your story. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the way you ran through the events! And now you're a successful author AND a rock star!
ReplyDeleteI love your story, Jessica. At least you didn't give up. :D
ReplyDeleteI like it! And look at you now... :)
ReplyDeleteHah! I totally LOVE the structure of your origings post!
ReplyDeleteThis was awesome, seriously
I love the creative way you presented your "origins" story. Pretty unique, aren't you? I've heard some good things about your book, too, and am looking forward to reading it. Count me in as your newest follower.
ReplyDeleteHaha what an awesome way to map out your path to noveling! My origins started in music, too, somewhat. I read the credits of the CDs I had and was floored by the fact that someone WROTE these songs! Then, I wrote lyrics for years, and poetry, before stumbling into fiction. Music plays a major part in my creative process!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the honorable mention!!
ReplyDeleteWait a minute, you mean writing a novel isn't easy-peasy?? Dang it!
Great origin story and very creative way to tell it. No wonder you're a writer.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! "easy peasy" :D That's awesome. But your poetry is like music, and so are your books. So there you go. It does all start w/the music~ :o) <3
ReplyDeleteI feel your journey! What a delight to be carried along with you as you surf the waves.
ReplyDeleteLoved your in a nutshell approach!
ReplyDeleteWhat I think is really cool is that all the poetry and song writing made your novel something really special.
ReplyDeleteThis is when it's fun to see people's backgrounds show through in what they're writing.
I love the way you presented this!
ReplyDeleteI like that you simply listed your timeline. Awesome. I've read some really long entries today.
ReplyDelete"I SO know what I'm doing." Didn't we all think that in the beginning?
ReplyDeleteThat's quite a journey from music to poetry to novels! But you know I think it's a perfect route. Each gives you such a wealth of language and rhythm to build on.
ReplyDeleteI really love the creative evolution that that brought you to writing novels!

ReplyDeleteLove this. It kicks ass that you just went for it...and now...you are a rockin author!
ReplyDeleteLike how you got from music to the written word. With time and practise, we can do anything.
ReplyDeleteHa, that's cute. We can literally see what was in your head and thought processes ;p You give me hope and encouragement that its okay if it takes a bit longer...
ReplyDeleteWriting is so much like life - one hell of a rollercoaster ride and sometimes you're just hanging out for it to end. You've clearly got the determination and stickability required to bring home the bacon - and that is often the bit which we overlook when viewing the final product. The blood, sweat and tears are a testament to the price you have to be willing to pay - and I'm not sure many of us are willing to take that path. Congratulations on having the courage, endurance and ability to say it how it is - many of us can only imagine what it would be like to do so.
ReplyDeleteMine is more like...
ReplyDeleteNovel - bam bam, twang twang, grunt, yell, squeal, vibrato, ahh, pluck, strum, record, click, cassette, disc, head bang ...
:) Loved your ORIGIN!
Love your progression toward writing. :)
ReplyDeleteI loved the way it happened for you!
ReplyDeleteI have your book on my kindle~ I can't wait to read it!
Hi Jess .. can sort of see it happening - just glad I wasn't around to hear it all! But congratulations on the honourable mention - that's just great news .. well done - and I did love the trailer ...
ReplyDeleteCheers - Hilary
