  1. World building can be loads of fun. You get to use your imagination to create a place all your own or even integrating a "secret world" into the fabric of our known world.

  2. I don't do in-depth world building, but most of those things I've hashed out in my mind before I begin writing.

  3. I'm a big fan of cultural worldbuilding - like if you have magic, how does that effect the culture and social and economic landscape of your world?

  4. Outer-planetary worlds are my favorite, as I'm writing science fiction covering several worlds in a distant star system.

I use a folder to keep track of the profiles, various plot lines, and important background info. Like your advice on World Building and great list of things to consider. (that's an efolder and a real folder)

  5. Sarah, good point, there's magical worldbuilding as well as the more scifi science-y worldbuilding. Whatever magical system one creates has to make internal sense and have specific parameters. DG, outer planetary, cool! I've just been looking at Heinlein's stories that are a lot about travel to planets.

  6. I love to read about other worlds, as well as contemporary. As for me, I don't seem to have the imagination for worldbuilding, so I write mostly contemporary.

  7. I didn't know you did all those illustrators! That's awesome.
Love the turn you took on your worldbuilding.

  8. I write historical romance, and I find you need to consider worldbuilding there too.

  9. Ah, yes, Lynn, anything historical needs not only worldbuilding but tons of research! Yes, Eliza, I am also an illustrator. Bev, don't underestimate yourself--contemporary fiction requires lots of imagination too.
