M is for ... ???

Thanks to all who dropped by yesterday! The answer to yesterday's post was indeed, LUST.

If you are new to this blog please read the note in the header above this post so you know what to do! Thanks!

Clue for today: The state of mind is not the narrator of this poem, it's the person the narrator is referring to.

Nailed

In Woodwork when
I nailed my thumb
to a handmade spoon
I thought of you.

I thought you’d enjoy
watching me scream—
watching the blood
gush—stain my brown
leather school shoes—
the ones I punctured
with bass clefs in Textiles.

I imagine you trying
to push my blood
in the holes.

So, can you guess the emotion/feeling/state of mind (a noun) depicted in this poem that begins with the letter ‘M’? Please nip over to Nicole's blog to read her interpretation of our M-prompt word. Here’s the link!

  3. It seems to me the person being written about would enjoy watching the writer's pain. So it's not masochism because that would be the writer enjoying her own self-inflicted pain.

Other "m" words aren't right either, melancholia, misery...

    How about malevolent malice?

  5. Hmmm. I thought Nicole's was mayhem, but this looks more like misery to me. Guess y'all stumped me today.

  8. Brilliantly macabre! I can just picture Wednesday Addams staring at this bleeding person. I'm going say madness.

  12. The only m word I can think of that might fit here is malicious. I'll be back tomorrow to find out how far off base I was.

  13. Creepy! This is different than what I guessed at Nicole's, but it sounds malevolent to me.

  14. The first M that came into my head was, Melodrama!

  15. Well, darn, based on Nicole's post, I thought the word was merriment, but your post is much more evocative of madness.

  16. I think I'm still saying madness.

  17. Nicole's suggested mayhem and this suggests misery.
