O is for ... ???

Thanks to all who dropped by on Saturday! The answer to the post was, NAIVETY. Today's key word is actually an act or state of being, rather than mind. I'm going to be a little abstract today with a poem. I think it's time we make this a little more challenging!

If you are new to this blog please read the note in the header above this post so you know what to do! Thanks!

The strength of her grip
sears fingerprints
into my palm.
I’m silenced
as her claws embed
into my lifeline,
piercing what’s been
patented as my stream
of consciousness
since I tore through
her womb
like alien spores.
Have I been growing
like fungus;
spreading myself
as far as I can stretch—
for this day? For the day
I realize she,
who put me on this
earth, has the power
to extinguish me too,
by severing the link—
deforming my instrument.

So, can you guess the word (a noun) depicted in this piece that begins with the letter ‘O’? Please nip over to Nicole's blog to read her interpretation of our O-prompt word. Here’s the link!

  17. It would be Ontogeny: The course of development of an individual organism, if the two paragraphs were less about a particular stage of development and more about the full course.

So, Ontology: The palm-pained narrator at one point fears for his very being or existence, whereas the Reverend imposes his ontologically anchored, cocksure code of ethics upon his daughter, who in turn must leave behind a repressed, familial state of being for another state of being she perceives as freedom.
