#AtoZchallenge: PJ Harvey

Polly I am your biggest fan. How can I describe how much you have given me? Enthusiasm to continue creating music while maintaining my passion for writing. A need to maintain my physical appearance at a time when all I want to do is be a slob and not leave my house. A desire to perfect my descriptions of music so that when they are read, they read like you sound.

Your music makes me want to sing, to play guitar, to give the piano another go, to turn on my stereo so loud that I rattle my entire apartment building that's six floors high!

But I don't want to be you. Because you make me want to be me. And be good at being me. Polly, I could not live without your music in my life.

What musician can you not live without?

Don't forget to drop by Dawn Ius' blog, my partner in crime, to see her music pick for H.

REMEMBER! During the challenge, I will choose a random commenter every two days, to receive a free download of one of my albums. Your choice! That's thirteen winners. How does that sound? Tell your friends! Just comment for a chance to win.

  1. There are SO many musicians I couldn't live without, but Maroon 5 is my favourite at the moment. There isn't a single song they've recorded that I don't love!

  3. Between you and Dawn, Ive got some awesome music to accompany my morning blogging!:) Have you heard that new song by gotye that's been being played like crazy on euro radio? Reminds me of early 'police' stuff but just the fact that he's aussie reminds me of you every time i hear it!

  4. So many musicians and eclectic tastes, I just cannot think but at this moment I am listening to a brilliant Italian singer Alessandra Amoroso.

  5. Now that is the best kind of inspirational hero - one that motivates you to be the best YOU.
Named some of my musical heroes today as well.

  6. That is a tough question. I guess it would depend on what time in my life I'm talking about. As a younger dancer, there are a ton of artists I couldn't have lived without. They motivated me like no others. Then I have writing music, music to just be silly to... But the ultimate one, that I'll have to think about.

  7. If you’ve read my latest blog you’ll see many of the classical composers I can’t live without but as far as singer songwriters goes the top of my list would have to be Fish. I blogged about his song writing abilities here. I buy his albums now without ever needing to hear even a single track beforehand.

  9. Love this, Jessica! I've been drooling over Erykah Badu's "Windowseat" lately. It's a few years old, but I just love it!

  10. I think I discovered PJ, Liz Phair and Ani DiFranco all around the same time - all very talented and amazing ladies with cojones bigger than some of your rock jocks out there. Doing it their way, which sometimes wasn't the prettiest way.

As for me, I wouldn't want to live in a world without Bruce Dickinson. He recently joined Ian Anderson at Canterbury Cathedral and proved he isn't just another "metal" singer.
    Enjoying your ABCs so far!

  16. What musician could I not live without? Bob Dylan. He's influenced my life, all my life. He kept changing, just like the times. Saw him live about 3 years and he and his current group were fantastic. A blast of sound.

    Liked your post!

  17. Hi Jess - I'm with DG .. Dylan and Leonard Cohen .. love those rough sounds with beautiful poetry ..

But PJ certainly rocks her music out ..
