#AtoZChallenge: Portishead

The song embedded below has to be one of my most favourite songs of all time. Portishead, along with Nightmares On Wax, are the two bands which make me want to experiment with electronic sound. Portishead, especially, because their songs also thrive with emotion. Beth's voice is just SO mesmerizing. Don't you think? When I listen to Portishead, I need space and peace and quiet. I want to lie on the couch, or on the balcony in the sun and let myself melt into their tunes. The type of music Portishead produces is what I want to write in my next life.

What bands/songs make you want to melt into your couch?

Don't forget to drop by Dawn Ius' blog, my partner in crime, to see her music pick for P.

  1. Hawaiian music always tends to relax me, and reminds me of our beach wedding in Malaysia. I love the smooth voice of the late Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, especially his rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."

  2. Damian Rice's O is my relaxing bath soundtrack. Other than that I've listened to hard rock for so long, I find it relaxing and can fall asleep to it!

  3. It depends on my mood. I love light music when I'm relaxing, but I'm a total 80's girl. I can listen to anything from that era at almost any time.

  5. Love the sound of this band! They have a movie noir, almost western feel going on. Total couch melt.

  6. Great song! In fact that whole album (Dummy) is pretty amazing.

I tend to listen to classical music more when I'm trying to relax. Anything with lyrics and my brain insists on reciting them along with the music, which isn't very relaxing :-)

  11. I can see why you want to bask in the glory of escape! Why do I hear a Bond mood in this tune? I like it! Thanks for sharing~

  12. Wow, never hear of Portishead, love it. The song that gets me to drift into the cosmos right now is Isotroph, Avenir. It has limited vocals but it feel like it slows time down. Anyway, I'm here via Alex's blog and it's really nice to meet you, you have a great voice and an amazing talent. (:

  15. Ohhh, you've done music - I need to revisit your entire A-Z now! hehe

I love Portishead. listened to them during my first world trip as an adult, with my dad - I had made mix tapes & thank the lil lordy I did, as sometimes local radio left a lot to be desired. haha

  16. I like practically all music. There was a great techno or electro music that was very interesting; I think the artists name was something like- Paul Oakenfield.
I love Joe Satriani's "Surfin' With the Alien" album a lot.
I love Khachaturian's violin concerto in D minor a lot.
