Amazon Chart Rush Results!!!!!!!!!

Firstly thank you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much for everyone who purchased my novel String Bridge yesterday! What a whirlwind of a day it was, I hardly noticed the time going by with all the comments on people's blogs I was making, and tweets and Facebook updates.

The last time I looked before going to bed last night, my book's bestseller rank was at around #2,000. But apparently, according to Amy Saia, it reached the low 100s! Woot! 

And guess what??? I made it to No.40 in Amazon's Hot New Releases!!!!!!! And I'm still currently sitting at No.52. 

You did this folks! Thank you so much. I will never ever forget how you all helped me to achieve this amazing thing. I know it's not really that much of a big deal in the scheme of things. But it is for me, for someone who started from NOTHING only a year ago. So thank you!!!!

Nirvana—the grunge band which made dressing like a construction worker in flannel shirts and blundstone boots a fashion statement.

and thinkin' I look cool?

So what was the deal with flannel? It looks like a picnic table cloth. Why was it so cool? Did it make people think that they could eat off themselves? Did it inspire some sort of kinky agenda?

"Hey baby, wanna fry a snag and rest it on me chest? While you're at it love, git me a beer, and lick that mustard off this button. It don't look too hot."

"But dear, that's coz I spread the mild one on ya."

Actually, I still like flannel, and if I owned a flannel shirt I'd probably wear it with a decent pair of jeans. Something kinda wholesome about it, isn't there?

As for blundstones, I prefer good old army boots to those now. Mind you, I don't have my army boots anymore either. Replaced them with boots that look like army boots but are so soft you might as well call them Hush Puppies.

I think I'm getting old ...

I catch myself playing air-guitar as if it were a common reflex.

I have to admit. I did want to be a rock star once. It was my first "dream," but that dream, I think was environmental. Yes, my parents were musos and music was around me each and every single day. It was only natural to think that that's what I wanted.

But I reached a point where I couldn't understand why I didn't care whether I'd be a successful musician or not. My peers would constantly tell me that I was wasting my talent not to use it. But I found something that I was more passionate about and wanted to succeed in. On my own. Writing.

Funny now that writing has made me cherish my ability to write and perform music, isn't it? Now that I've linked it to my writing, it feels so much more worth the effort. Now, I think I can finally find some satisfaction from it other than the private thrill and therapeutic qualities it evokes when I play in my bedroom. Oooh. That sounded kinda rude, didn't it? Well ... get your minds out of the gutter ...

Don't get me wrong. I loved music. I needed music. But now that I need writing, I need music even more. The two work together now. And I'm so excited to see where this is going to take me.

I’d eat on the verandah, without a plate, propped up on a whitewashed ledge full of tacky red plastic buckets, where my Yiayia would hand-wash our laundry.

As many of you know, there is a section in my novel which describes a Greek island I spent a lot of my childhood on.

I had such a fantastic time there as a kid and the memories are absolutely precious. Though, in this photo, I think I may have been quite miserable :o) I mean, come'on, who likes to hand-wash their clothes??? I still hate doing the laundry now and I have a washing machine! :o)

And at five, when your grandmother has a washing machine, but uses it to tenderize weird sea creatures instead of washing clothes, then, I guess it might be a bit confusing, yeah??? Yep, you read right. You'll just have to read the book to know the story behind that! Heheheeeee ...

I drag my fingers over a row of toddler-sized zebras like a schoolboy bouncing his hand along a stranger’s picket fence.

Me 'n' mah kitteh ...

I loved my toys as a kid. But I wasn't really a big fan of dolls. I liked the stuffed cuddly kind, especially the ones that looked like animals.

I used to pretend that they were real and coming to me for comfort. I'd stroke them and pat them and whisper in their ears how much I loved them. Ha! I still do that, except now I have a real dog to stroke and pat and whisper sweet nothings to.

I did have a couple of cats, called Socks and Charlie, when I was really young, but they either ran away, or got run over, or something ... can't remember. I even had a canary at one point. But I let it out of its cage to play. Then I had a goldfish, which died a few days after I purchased it because I kept scooping it out of the water to kiss. Then I just got more toys. Toys didn't die.

All my toys are now in the hands of other children. I hope. They all went into the Salvation Army bin when I moved to Greece. But I think about them sometimes. I especially think about the HUGE white dog which was taller than me at the time. If I saw him now, I think he'd probably reach my knees.
