Next Top Title blog Fest

Ok, this is a pretty damn easy blog fest if you ask me, but seriously fun and fantasticular idea - no, that was not meant to sound like a mix between fantastic and testicle, but hey, it happened.

The lovely host is slushpile slut. Make sure you nip over to hers to check out the other participants in her side bar.

The deal today is to list three to five possible titles for your current WIP(s), in order to see what response they get without knowing anything about the story. So what titles of mine attract the most attention? Muster the most curiosity? What titles would spark your interest and make you pick it up to take a closer look?

WIP 1 (women's/general fiction)

Curiosity Cured The Kit (or Curiosity Cured Kit)
Secrets + Lies = Truth
Bitter Like Orange Peel
The Roger Thing
More Than Absence

WIP 2 (memoir)

We're Not Ordinary People
Until I'd Fall Asleep With My Teeth Clenched
Her Tablet Courage
Please Don’t Wear Your Eyebrows To School Again
Looks Like Candy, Tastes Like Music

  3. Bitter Like Orange Peel, definitely for the first WIP, and

  4. Curiosity Cured Kit and Please Don't Wear Your Eyebrows To School Again.

Those are the ones I paused at. Just putting my two cents in!

  5. I don't think I'm in your target market, but here goes: Curiosity Cured the Kit. and Looks Like Candy Tastes Like Music

    ReplyDelete
  6. Definitely More Than Absence

But then I can't decide between
Please Don't Wear Your Eyebrows to School Again
    and
Looks Like Candy, Tastes Like Music

  7. It's a toss up for number one. Either Secrets + Lies = Truth. It's simple on the surface, but makes me think. The other would be Bitter Like Orange Peel. I'm imagining the cover for that one.

The second one is the eyebrows. I remember that scene, and it was so cute, but moreover it's a quirky thing to say and I'd be flipping the book over to read the blurb.

  8. The titles that grabbed me where:
    More Than Absence and
Until I'd Fall Asleep With My Teeth Clenched.

  9. Seriously, Secrets+ Lies= Truth would make me buy the book asap, that was pure awesomeness.

Please dont wear your eyebrows... was soooo cool, loved it too =)

  10. I like The Roger Thing and the eyebrows one!!! haha...

  11. I'm loving this blogfest, too - easy and fun! And it's so much fun to check out everyone else's entries, too.

    wip1 - Secrets + Lies = Truth
or The Roger Thing. Sorry it couldn't narrow it down to one, those would both make me stop and pick up the book to check it out.

wip2 - Again, I'm torn between Please Don't Wear Your Eyebrows to School Again and Looks Like Candy, Tastes Like Music, but I'd probably go with the Eyebrows one, because that makes me think this book is going to be funny (and I love funny!)

  12. I cast my votes for:

    More Than Absence

Looks Like Candy, Tastes Like Music

  14. The options for WIP2 all sound as if they imply very different voices for the memoir - Tablet sets up a completely different set of expectations about the narrative (and protagonist) compared to Eyebrows, for instance. And the ones with a concrete image will all have me looking for it recurring in various ways during the story itself...

  15. I'm going to vote for 'Bitter Like Orange Peel' (great image and sensory detail) and 'Until I'd Fall Asleep With My Teeth Clenched' because it's so original. I don't like 'Secrets + Lies = Truth', it's not a title that would make me think 'fun book'!

    ReplyDelete
  16. How easy is this blogfest? And Fun!
I love Secrets+Lies=Truth and Looks Like Candy Tastes Like Music.

Great Titles it was hard to choose!

    ReplyDelete
  17. THese are great!
    My favorite
Please Don’t Wear Your Eyebrows To School Again
    Fantastic!

    ReplyDelete
  18. You're not supposed to tell us genre! :p

1 Bitter, but maybe remove "like" from it
    Bitter Orange Peel
    Second place would be More

    2
    I'd shorten them:
    Not Ordinary
    Asleep With Teeth Clenched
    Tablet Courage
    Wearing Eyebrows to School
    Candy Music
I think I like Tablet the best.

  19. Thanks for your imput guys!

@ Lapetus999, re genre, why not? Everyone has the genre they write in their side bars anyway! :o)

The way you've shorted my titles completely change their meanings and don't work with the content at all. Thanks for making suggestions, though!

  20. Curiosity Cured The Kit, or just Bitter for your first. They're clever. And I like Looks Like Candy, Tastes Like Music for your memoir. Cuz it was kind of AWESOME.

  21. Bitter Like Orange Peel and Please Don't Wear Your Eyebrows to School Again.

    Love 'em!

  22. I like Bitter Like Orange Peel and Her Tablet Courage. Both intrigue me. What a fun exercise!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. ooo You went with several for 2 different novels. Nicely done. And I thought telling the genre was okay, as I was thinking I would be all different by making people guess the genre. lol

wip 1 - The first one is fun. It's a play on the whole curiosity and cat saying, so it would have an appeal to a certain audience based on that. I'm a fantasy reader so don't often delves in women's/general fiction. The orange peel one is different and really caught my attention. But I think More Than Absence is my favorite of the ones for this WIP.

wip 2 - They all have quite a different tone and appeal, though I rarely read memoir ever. The first one is okay but invokes a question of who is "we" and thus the book would be focused maybe on a group instead of one person. I like the sound of Looks Like Candy, Tastes Like Music. It's different without being overly so and has an interesting sound inside my head. Two of the others are just a bit too long for me.

  24. Hey -
    WIP1 Curiosity Cured The Kit
WIP2 Please Don't Wear Your Eyebrows To School Again. LOL - Excellent =D

  25. Looks Like Candy, Tastes Like Music

    More Than Absence

Those are my favorites. But then I'm a poet at heart. Take a peek at mine, Jessica, Roland

  26. WIP 1: Secrets + Lies = Truth ... makes me wonder how that combination can equal truth. I love it!

WIP 2: Please Don't Wear Your Eyebrows To School Again
It's great! Comical and cute. I'd definitely pick that one up! (Though I did also like "Looks Like Candy, Tastes Like Music".

    ReplyDelete
  27. WIP # 1 - Curiosity Cured the Kit

WIP # 2 - either the first or last

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like Secrets + Lies = Truth and Lookd Like Candy, Tastes Like Music. I don't usually like long titles, but the latter is really intriguing! The S+L=T sounds ery YA!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. bitter like orange peel

    Please Don't, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  30. WIP 1: I like Secrets + Lies = Truth. That title alone makes me wonder how that's possible. This almost sounds like a secret agent thing. Not sure, it's hard to tell with the varying titles! :D

WIP 2: I like "Please Don't Wear Your Eyebrows to School Again" It sounds like a light, fun read!

Great job with your creativity! :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Okay..there are some good ones to choose from. For the first one I pick "Bitter Like Orange Peel" and for the memoir: "We're Not Ordinary People."

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hmmm,

    Ill go with:

    More Than Absence.

    and

Please Don't Wear Your Eyebrows To School again.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Bitter Like Orange Peel :)
And as for the second, I like LOOKS LIKE CANDY, TASTES LIKE MUSIC the best. But honestly, PLEASE DON'T WEAR YOUR EYEBROWS TO SCHOOL AGAIN is quite good, especially if it's humorous.

I love this idea! May have to play with it later in the week...

    ReplyDelete
  34. WIP 1: The Roger Thing. But then I have a Roger thing, so I may be in the minority here.

WIP 2: I love Please Don't Wear Your Eyebrows to School Again AND Looks Like Candy, Tastes Like Music. I think if the work is intended as a humorous memoir - although I presume it's not - then definitely the Eyebrows. Otherwise Candy/Music. Candy is sweet but bad for you, music is good, bad, soothing, corrupting. Music is everything, it's like [a] life. Taste, too, has multiple meanings and subtleties that make the Candy/Music title really intriguing. Yeesh, I'm rambling, sorry.

  35. "Please Don't Wear Your Eyebrows to School" = hilarious. Love, love, love! Definitely that one!

I also really like "Curiosity Cured the Kit."

    ReplyDelete
  36. WIP 1: More than Absence

WIP2: I like a lot of them. I'd have to know more about it. Please Don't Wear Your Eyebrows to School Again is pretty funny.

  37. #1--Bitter Like Orange Peel

#2--Please Don't Wear Your Eyebrows to School Again

    :)

  38. Hey there,

I like More than Absence. It has a kind of drama-y feel to it. So does Bitter like Orange Peel. But I prefer More than Absence.

For the memoir, I like the last one, although just the second bit 'tastes like music' would appeal to me even more. I have a think for...what do you call it when you assosciate tastes with colours and stuff like that?
*scratches head* I'm sure there's a word for that...

Thanks for your comment on my title-collection! This has been a really fascinating blogfest.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hey Jessica!! You rock and Thx for participating!!

Whew! This was so hard, yours were really good!

I really like Secret + Lies = Truth BUT I also really liked Curiosity Cured The Kit...I'm no help...SRY

For WIP #2, I love Please Don't Wear Your Eyebrows to School Again but since I kinda know what it's about, I like The Teeth Clenched imagery. I think it would read a bit better shortened though such as, Sleeping With Teeth Clenched or Dreaming With Teeth Clenched....I think the clenched titles evoke more of a comprehensive overview of the total story/memoir...instead of just one of the scenes? I hope this helped :) Miss you too smart bitch and I can't wait to be less busy!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I loved the title, More than Absence ! Kind of hints at a woman's expectation from someone who is absent or.. her foray into understanding self.. and hopefully with a strong dose of humor (as suggested by other titles)

On WIP 2 : I liked tne "looks like candy, tastes like music" :) Candy + music I guess are all time favorites.., enough to pick a book..

  41. Thanks everyone. Today will write a post with the results and my thoughts and what the stories are about. :)

  42. Obviously, I'm far from the first to say this ... but "Bitter Like Orange Peel" freaking rocks!!
