Mr. S had an event last night and borrowed my beautiful electric acoustic Washburn guitar (image to the right) for the guitarist of WIRE, so he didn't have to hire one. And guess what? He got drunk and lost it. He thinks he left it outside the venue, but he may have left it inside the doorway. Fat chance of getting it back if he did, in fact, leave it outside.
I am so angry right now I could smash a guitar. But, me being the type of person who doesn't scream, is sitting here with my jaw clenched and holding back tears. Of course, he said he'd buy me a new one if it doesn't turn up, but I don't want a new one. I want MY GUITAR--the one I've learned to love like a pet dog. I've nourished it, cherished it, pampered it for years and now it's gone. We learned to love each other, and the friction between the strings and fret board was perfect for me. It's really hard to find a guitar the suits the strength of one's fingers. Oh man ... please black beauty find your way home...
Has your loved one ever lost something of value to you? How did you handle it?
Update: Just got a call. It's still there! Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Oh sorry to hear about this, Jess. Hope it returns to you.ReplyDelete
Oh no. Sorry to hear about your guitar. :(ReplyDelete
I'm so sorry! I can't imagine that. I've lost things but not something that takes a lot of time to break in like that. I'd probably react like you! Hope it gets better.ReplyDelete
Getting here late lets me witness the problem at the same time as the resolution... Glad to hear it got resolved!ReplyDelete
I really hope your guitar turns up! That's awful that it was lost. I hope some kind soul returns it!!!!ReplyDelete
That's awful! My husband's never lost anything, although he's broken a couple things. Nothing like that though!ReplyDelete
It's still there!!! Oh great news, I was feeling so sorry for you. I hope you have scurried off down there straight away to pick it up. :)ReplyDelete
But saw your update - thank God it's still there!
How does one lose a guitar? A GUITAR???
Oh no! I'm so sorry Jess, I don't know what to say ...ReplyDelete
Oh thank goodness. I see the update now. Here's to hoping it hasn't been damaged.ReplyDelete
Oh, my heart just sort of flipped in my chest. If my guitar got lost I'm sure I'd become a mini tornadic event. I'm SO glad it's come back to you. The Guitar Gods must be smiling upon you.ReplyDelete
I was about to cry about this.I'm not a musician but I have family who is and I know how an instrument becomes part of their very being. And then I read the last part. Oh JOY! I am so happy that it is still there!ReplyDelete
Oh my gosh you poor thing! That's awful!!! I can feel your pain of losing something, just not along the lines of music. However I do know how important that piece of instrument you've taken years to learn and love having it gone like that is awful. Buying a new one won't bring those same feelings back and those innerworkings back.ReplyDelete
I'm so sorry!!! I hope you can find it!
It's still there! Oh, that's such good news! I felt terrible for you, there. I can't imagine what it would be like to lose an instrument like that. :(ReplyDelete
So glad to hear that it's still there!! What a terrible loss that would have been.ReplyDelete
I do feel so sorry for you Jessica, soemthing you have treasured gone......just like that.ReplyDelete
I can't say my husband ever lost anything of value belonging to me, But the one thing he lost was his life and to me that was far more precious than anything I owned,
It took me many years to cope being on my own......even tried another relationship 9 yrs later but he was violent so left him. I had to accept my loss and once that was done could start to live again.
Hope your guitar comes to light.
Pleased to know it's still there.ReplyDelete
Good thing you found it!! OMG!ReplyDelete
That happened when I moved. My boyfriend at the time didn't secure one load and I lost a few things. But you have to sacrifice a few things to the moving gods so I didn't get too upset.
My goodness- that would be scary to face- but I am so glad you got it back. My loved one's dog chewed up something important to me once- it was really sad. But I knew what happened to it- so it was easier to handle.ReplyDelete
There is nothing more gut-wrenching than the idea of someone else owning YOUR special something, and having no idea what a heartbreak it was for that somebody to lose it.ReplyDelete
I hope you get it back, hugs!
Oh, Jessica, I'm so glad they found it. My loved one has never lost something precious of mine, but if he did, I guess, once I got over the anger and hurt, I'd try to forgive. But I'd have to have a serious talk with him about responsibility.ReplyDelete
My goodness Jessica that's horrible!ReplyDelete
I don't know what I'd do if someone lost my violin or viola. It's like losing a part of yourself, you know? Your arm, or an eye. Music lives in that wood, it breathes. I hope you get your guitar back.
I'm sorry for your loss, Jessica. I understand how hard it is to find the right instrument that you can fall in love with. Not all guitars are the same, just like not all violins, pianos, flutes are the same. It takes time to find the one that sings to you. (Sorry about the awful pun).ReplyDelete
Nooo! That is more than terrible! I so hope some how you get it back.ReplyDelete
I have lost somethings precious to me. Some things came back, some didn't. I hope yours comes back.
Oh boy! *hugs*ReplyDelete
I don't really have anything to say, because I know what a wreck I'd be if my signif lost my dog (which I'm thinking is about the equivalent of how you feel right now). I've got my fingers crossed that it's INSIDE the door.
I am so relieved to see the update!! OMG I felt devastated for you. I don't play guitar, but I have lost things of importance, and had them lost for me.ReplyDelete
OMG, if someone touched my Gibson and they would need surgery. I so understand, a guitar is an extension of it's player and once the fit is made it is hard to look at another.ReplyDelete
My condolences :(
Jules @ Trying To Get Over The Rainbow
Hooray! The day is saved! So happy for you that the guitar is still there.ReplyDelete
I know if anyone ever lost my violin (or my manuscript), I'd smash a guitar over their head.
I'm so glad it was still there!ReplyDelete
OMG! I do hope Holly has his side of the bed! What a horrid thing to happen!ReplyDelete
OH NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I totally relate--I live with a musician (bass player) and I SOOO get it.ReplyDelete
Darn-it--here's hoping your wishes come true!!!!!
Oh. My. God. He lost your effing guitar??? What the ... !ReplyDelete
First, I can't believe you loaned it to him, but then he LOST IT???
Long distance ((squeeze)) Hit man ordered~ :o|
oh, look! You put the update after your signature. Silly girl. I hope I can still call off that hit man... :DReplyDelete
Oh Jess, that just plain SUCKS. I'm so sorry. I don't blame you being angry - I'd be furious!ReplyDelete
But... it's found, it's found! Thank goodness!
OH NO! That's awful! I can imagine what it would be like to lose something so cherished like that. ((hugs))!! IReplyDelete
Oops, just read your update- SO glad it's still there!!!!
Felt such great relief for you when I reached the bottom of this post!ReplyDelete
That's fantastic news, Jessica. I'm beyond happy for you. Yay!
I’m so sorry to hear that. Instruments are all so different – even when they are the same (you know what I mean). Thank goodness, it was still there. Happy Days!ReplyDelete
Oh my goodness!!!!ReplyDelete
I'm SOOOOO glad your guitar was found!
Oh, man, that so sucks! I hope you find it. It's happened to me before and it always leaves a hole.ReplyDelete
I have a bracelet that I made that I loved beyond all reason because it was the first I'd made that looked really spectacular and I used some really cool blue chalcedony stones. I lent to my good friend who broke it and lost some of the stones. They were stones selected by me at rock shop that has since gone out of business. I made another, but it's not the same.ReplyDelete
Just saw your update at the bottom of the post. I am so happy that you got your Black Beauty back. How thoughtless that he left it like that.
Yay, glad you got it back!ReplyDelete
Oh my God, this is a heartbreaking post! I really hope you get it back. Ugh, how awful!!ReplyDelete
Worst feeling ever! But I'm so glad you got it back! :)ReplyDelete
The thought of losing my guitar makes me nauseous...ReplyDelete
